    Snoring is Normal

The statistics say that about 45% of our population snores, at least occasionally.
I remember, when growing up, my grandfather used to snore so loud that no one in the whole house could sleep.  One time, while camping out by a lake, the neighboring campers complained about his snoring and said they couldn’t sleep.
    My grandpa was [...]

Sleep Tips: Take a Shower or Bath Before You Retire

Taking a bath or shower before you go to bed will greatly increase the deepness of your sleep.
Your body will be able to drift off to sleep as your body temperature decreases, giving you the restorative benefits of a good night’s sleep.
When you take a shower in warm or hot water, your body temperature will [...]

Sleep Debt Is It For Real?

There is a term, called sleep debt, that’s being used a lot these days and I’m not sure why.
Sleep debt is supposed to occur when you don’t get the amount of sleep that you need.  This could be a night when you had too many burritos and couldn’t sleep because of excessive stomach acid or [...]

    Insomnia, Can Acupuncture Help?

Many people aren’t familiar with acupuncture, much less acupuncture as a treatment or cure for insomnia.  Nevertheless, it is sometimes used as a treatment for insomnia and people who’ve had good results swear by it.
Anti-depressant medication can help, but in general, drug therapies can cause drowsiness, interfere with sleep quality.
This can lead up to more [...]

Hot Tip on New Mattress Flammability Standards

In a recent post I covered the new stricter flammability standards for mattress manufacturers.  I suggested that this might be a good time to protect your family with a new mattress purchase.
All mattresses will now have a tag that shows they meet the new standard and that’s where this tip might save you some heartache…read [...]

Alaskan Weblog Says “It’s Always Daytime”

I had never really given much thought to the idea of trying to sleep in Alaska when it’s summer and it’s daylight all the time. How do you know when it’s time to go to bed?
It’s a well known fact that “Seasonal Affective Disorder” is a problem in the months when there’s very little [...]

Random Thoughts Regarding Fire Safe Mattresses

There is a new standard being enforced on mattress manufacturers that will greatly increase fire safety in mattresses.
This new standard is going into effect on July 1, 2007.
If you’ve purchased a mattress in the past couple of years, you may have received a mattress that is fire safe already.
A couple of years ago, California passed [...]

    Adult Naps, Are They Necessary?

If you’ve ever wondered why we take naps as kids and, then, at some point “outgrow” them, I just read an interesting article on this thought.
Do adults need naps? I think common sense would dictate that if you are very tired or even exhausted, a nap would be a natural remedy.
    If you suffer from [...]

Do You Think The 3rd Grade Bully Was Just Sleepy?

Yet another study, on people who don’t get enough sleep or who suffer from sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, suggests that lack of proper sleep may be responsible for “bullies.”
After all, they reason, if adults don’t get enough sleep they’re irritable, aren’t they?
That’s kind of a stretch, in my humble opinion.
    Don’t get enough sleep?…go [...]
